Volunteer with CHIP
Volunteers are the heart of CHIP. For over 40 years, we have worked together to ensure residents in Central-Eastern Lincoln County have access to emergency heating assistance and essential home repairs. Whether you are a carpenter, an organizer, or a “numbers person,” there is a place for you with CHIP!
Ways to Get Involved:
- Community Cares Day – SIGN UPs available Now. More information and sign up here. Second Saturday in September. Our local community comes together to build steps, replace trailer skirting, help seniors clean and do yard work and build window inserts for neighbors with limited resources. All skill levels welcome.
- Board & Advisor Leadership – Guide our strategy and governance.
- Essential Home Repairs – Swing a hammer or lead a team.
- Firewood (Wood CHIPs) – Help tackle heating insecurity outdoors.
- Community Liaisons – Be an ambassador in your town, school, business or church.
- Window Inserts – Build energy efficiency for local homes.
- Fundraising & Events – Help us organize, photograph, and grow.
Essential Home Repairs:
Join a Year-Round Repair Team (working on projects weekly or monthly) or lend a hand on Community Cares Day in September.
- Tasks: Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, floor repairs, and building wheelchair ramps to help make homes safe.
- Looking for: People with basic repair skills (or a willingness to learn), a problem-solving mindset, and a non-judgmental, respectful attitude toward homeowners.
- Leaders: We need Team Leaders to assess the scope of jobs, order materials, and guide volunteers.
Wood CHIPs Firewood Crew
Help us stack, process, and deliver firewood to households in need. This active group includes everyone from students to retired folks.
- Tasks: Splitting, sawing (safety training required), and stacking.
- Looking for: High-energy volunteers. Youth under 14 are welcome with parents! Some specialized training and equipment may be required.
- Organizer: Help organize stackers so our piles will be dry for delivery.
Community Liaisons: Our Ambassadors
Help us spread the word in your town, organization, school, or business.
- Tasks: Putting up flyers, organizing talks about CHIP’s work, or helping with town warrant requests for financial support.
- Looking for: Trusted, friendly voices who want to ensure their neighbors know how to access help.
Leadership & Committees
Share your professional expertise to guide the future of CHIP.
- Board of Directors: Strategic oversight, governance, monthly directors meeting and some additional time weekly for special projects and committees tasks.
- Advisory Council: Provide expert insight (legal, insurance, grant writing) on a more flexible schedule.
- Committees: Join a focused group for Grants, Finance, Outreach, or Development.
Get ready to volunteer! We look forward to being in touch to find the best fit for your skills, interests and schedule.
